Ava H.

Ava is an ardent environmentalist and a senior at Lane Tech. She created F(earth)er Magazine in order to help individuals learn more about the environment in an unconventional manner, by incorporating a variety of people's interests. Ava is deeply invested into educating herself and others on environmental issues and has read many environmental books and journal articles. In her free time, she loves playing tennis, running, photography, and making plant-based food recipes. In college, she plans to major in Environmental Studies, striving towards a career in academia, politics, or law that will create effective systemic change to combat the climate crisis and environmental injustice

Maya W.

Maya is a junior at Whitney Young who is passionate about the environment, specifically the fair trade movement and environmental racism. Some of her other interests include cooking, playing piano, and caring for her pets.

Amy E.

Amy is a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign  double majoring in Economics and Anthropology. Amy is on Educational Outreach Board of Illinois Space Society, a club on campus. She works to make space and STEM education more accessible. In addition to teaching kids about space, Amy loves dancing, playing the violin, traveling, and swimming with her friends.

Rachel L.

Rachel is a senior at Lane Tech. While her academic interests largely lie outside of environmental fields, she is very passionate about working on issues like climate change in other spheres in order to do her part in the fight for a livable future.

Julia T. 

Julia is a senior at Northside. When she’s not organizing with the Sunrise Movement, she can be found going on a run, thrifting, or painting on something that doesn’t need to be painted on. This summer she is scooping ice cream in Andersonville. She hopes to major in Political Science and Environmental Studies in college.

Diana M. 

Diana is a senior at Lane Tech and is interested in philosophy, biology, and research. As a free spirit, she enjoys running cross country and track. Personally, Diana believes that responsibility concerning the environment lies within ourselves and everyone's day-to-day practices. However, marketers has portrayed the sustainable movement as an exclusive lifestyle. Diana strives to dissuade readers from this facade, in order to promote the sustainability movement as an inclusive environment where every individual is acknowledged.

Rahal K.

Rahal is a senior at Lane Tech and is in Muslim Club, Environmental Club, and is a STARS Mentor. She loves to educate others , read about astrology (she is a Pisces), and plant vegetables for her pet rabbits. She is planning to major in Psychology to become a clinical psychologist. As a strong advocate for mental health, Rahal is creating an Instagram page that educates others on various mental illnesses. Rahal decided to join F(earth)er because she is interested in helping to raise awareness on current environmental issues.

Giorgia F.

Giorgia is a freshman at DePaul University in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In recent years she has become concerned about the climate crisis and hopes to raise awareness for ways to combat global warming and encourage more sustainable life choices. In her free time, Giorgia enjoys playing tennis, baking, and creating art.

Sophia is a senior at Northside. She is a member of her school’s recycling club and has a passion for STEM and the environment, especially water. When she’s not doing STEM stuff, Sophia loves to swim, play water polo, cook, and hang out with friends.

Marisa is a junior at Lane Tech. As part of the Alpha program, she conducts science fair experiments yearly, usually concentrating around environmental science and more specifically juglone. As a writer in the F(earther) magazine, Marisa hopes to educate and inform people in Generation Z about new and ongoing scientific research that can immensely impact the future.

Ana is a senior at Lane Tech. She is an avid advocate for environmental education and an AP Environmental Science teaching assistant at her high school. She is currently the co-president of her high school’s sustainability club, as well as the author of a food and lifestyle blog, titled “Stories at the Dining Table.”

Sophie is a senior at Walter Payton. Besides being an environmentalist, Sophie enjoys playing Irish Music, volunteering at Paws Chicago, and taking care of her five succulents. As the co-president of the Model UN team at Payton, she is passionate about international relations and making the world a better place.

Alena is a senior at Lane Tech. She has a passion for the arts, traveling, and all things sustainability. She recently completed a summer program at Depaul where she made a documentary about people’s perceptions on sustainability and Chicago’s efforts to be green. She hopes to one day visit all of America’s national parks!

Ever since Natasha was little, she has had a love for nature. Some of her fondest memories are gardening with her mom and neighbor. It's here that her passion for sustainability sprouted. As her care for the environment grew, she had gained the drive to spread awareness of sustainable practices and implement them into her own life. She strives to live sustainably and spread that lifestyle as much as possible.

Stephenie is 16 years old and interested in engineering, chemistry, and environmental science. She is considering to pursue a career in one of those fields, hoping to inspire others in the future! Stephenie is a creative and very energetic person who likes running road races, going fishing, sewing, and painting.

Nataly is the secretary of Lane Tech's DREAMers' Club and is graduating high school in 2021. She loves to read and write, and is a big fan of Kpop, specifically BTS. Nataly's favorite anime to watch are Haikyuu and My Hero Academia. Planning on going into law and politics, Nataly hopes to work within Chicago to make the city a better place.

Christa is a freshman at Lane Tech involved in the Alpha concentration. She is deeply invested in tennis, guitar, overanalyzing both literature & film, philosophy, computer science, "Future Problem Solvers", and maintaining her 100+ day streak on French Duolingo. As a means of refraining from only generating solutions for futuristic problems and strengthening her environmental activism, she has decided to join F(earth)er Magazine. As a writer for F(earth)er, she is dedicated to perpetuating a culture of inclusivity when it comes to sustainability and utilizing her humanities derived passions towards deconstructing negative notions of who science is for.
